Rendine is Victoria's Regional Builder of the Year

When you walk into Marcus Oldham College's new Douglas Boyd Learning Centre, it's easy to see why Rendine Constructions

has been named Regional Builder of the Year in the MBAV's annual Excellence in Construction awards.

The College's ambitious brief was to create a truly unique building encompassing technology and facilities to position

the college as a leader in 21st century agricultural education. Architect 3iD Studios responded with a stunning unique design, albeit one incorporating numerous technical construction challenges.

Such a plan could only be brought to reality by a commercial builder with outstanding engineering capability, extensive construction experience, and a can-do mentality. In praising our delivery on the brief, the MBAV noted the “intricate and innovative” steel structure alone required more than 3000 man hours to create.

“Its complex design focused upon the internal and external architectural details. This can be seen in the use of external

materials integrated indoors, and the use of conventional products in unique ways such as the pressed metal ceiling used on intricate angles instead of flat,” MBAV judges said.

Features of the centre include a 24-seat boardroom, classrooms, large learning spaces, a multipurpose auditorium featuring tiered seating, additional breakout and meeting rooms, and an IT hub and reading area. The $9.4 million project is set over three levels, with overhead walkways interconnecting different zones.

Rendine Constructions General Manager Michael Thornton says the Douglas Boyd Learning Centre was “a pretty amazing build”,

even by our own high standards.

“Because of the incredible design that 3idarchitecture.com.au produced, nothing was flat. Everything was triangulated,” he says.

“We worked with materials that had some inherent difficulties in those situations, and produced a stunning result.”

Marcus Oldham College Principal Andrew Baker praised our ability to meet the challenge to deliver a “remarkable” facility that

not only utilises technology on a global scale, but is also a visually stunning and engaging learning space.

“The Learning Centre has an impact on you the moment you enter it. You instantly feel you belong. It's warm and inclusive

and the wonderful thing about it is you feel this every time you enter the building,” he says.

Winning the MBAV's top award for regional construction firmly positions Rendine Constructions as a builder of choice for

the commercial construction sector, with an established reputation for flexibility, ingenuity and outstanding attention to the

small details that matter to our customers.

“This award is the pinnacle of many years of sustained growth for a Geelong business that is making an impact well beyond

our own region, and being recognised for it,” said Rendine Constructions Managing Director Greg Mills.

“There's an element of pride for everyone here, because it validates our vision to develop a team of people with the expertise

and passion to produce truly extraordinary construction.”
